New York Yankees vs Minnesota Twins ALDS game 1 preview

The New York Yankees 2009 postseason starts today against the pesky Minnesota Twins.  The Yankees knew they were going to the playoffs weeks ago, the Twins didn’t know until hours ago.  The Yankees won all seven of their regular season match-ups against the Twins, but the Twins are a different team now.  They are the hottest team in baseball and it brought them the AL Central title, as they beat the Detroit Tigers last night in a one game playoff.

Although the Twins are hot, their bullpen is depleted after they used eight total pitchers yesterday.  The Twins have Brian Duensing starting, and in he has only faced the Yankees once out of the bullpen in early July.  The Yankees on the other hand are rested and ready to go.  They have C.C. Sabathia starting, and he will be able to shut down the Twins and their powerful left handed batters, most notably Joe Mauer.  Mauer is hitting a career .217 against Sabathia.  The Twins never quit though, so the Yankees bullpen better be ready for them.  I think they will hold them off though, especially since Sabathia is on the bump today, but don’t be surprised if it is a very close game.
